Founded in 1978, MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE is focused on serving three very distinct, but complementary markets within a specific geographic region of the country: Aircraft Owners MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE serves these three groups through an editorial profile which is directed at meeting the needs and interests of all groups -- namely the "protection and development of airports." States served include Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana. In addition to airport news and information, editorial topics include travel destinations, airport restaurant reviews, fly-in and airshow reports, legislative and legal issues, human interest stories, safety, awards and recognition, questions and answers from aviation experts, technology, insightful editorials, and coverage of major aviation events including AOPA Expo, EAA AirVenture, Sun 'n Fun, state aviation/airport conferences, and state aviation halls of fame induction programs. Columns Include: Dialogue with MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE Editor Dave Weiman Special Sections Include: Legislative Affairs - State & Federal Editorial emphasis is placed on encouraging pilots, airport officials and aviation business men and women to get involved in protecting and promoting aviation and their local airport, but also through such programs as AOPA Airport Watch and Project Pilot, and EAA Young Eagles. The editor and publisher of MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE, Dave Weiman, is actively involved in state and national aviation groups. He learned to fly in the Twin Cities in 1970 and currently owns a Cessna 182 Skylane. He holds single-engine land and sea ratings, an instrument rating, and has tail-dragger and high altitude endorsements. He regularly flys and reports on the latest in aircraft designs including, but not limited to Lancair, Cirrus, Mooney, Piper, Beechcraft, Epic, Diamond, Columbia, Cessna, and American Champion. Dave Weiman holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota, a Masters of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin, and served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin from 1974-80, and was a communication specialist at the University of Wisconsin from 1980-81. He and his wife, Peggy, have founded four aviation publications to date including the predecessor to MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE -- WISCONSIN FLYER MAGAZINE, and WORLD AIRSHOW NEWS and AIRSHOW PROFESSIONAL. Having worked with all aspects of general aviation, Dave Weiman strives to build consensus between all groups including pilots, aircraft owners, airport tenants, fixed base operators, airport management, state and federal aviation officials, and the military. He believes that the state aviation/airport conferences held in most states is a step in the right direction to achieving consensus, but encourages individuals and groups to work locally in achieving consensus at the local level. Contributing editors of MIDWEST FLYER MAGAZINE include a host of professional and technical experts including a doctor, lawyer, circuit court judge, photographer, aircraft builder, university professor, former military officer, state and federal aviation officials, an avionics shop technician, and an aviation historian. All contributing editors are pilots, and most are aircraft owners.
